Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG) is a Japanese bank and financial services company

headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo. It constituets one of the main companies of the Mitsubishi Group.

MUFG was formed on the 1st of October 2005 through the merger of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Holdings. As a consequence of the merger, the core banking units of the group (Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ Bank) merged to form The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd on the 1st of January 2006.

MUFG is Japan’s largest financial group and one of the world’s largest bank holding

companies. Data from the year 2016 show the MUFG holding well over 2.4 trillion USD in assets.
